# Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC controllers

> PLCGateway reads and writes MELSEC iQ-R, iQ-F, Q and L controllers with the MC protocol over Ethernet and shares their devices through OPC UA and SCADA.

Mitsubishi controllers are connected with the MC protocol (SLMP) in the 3E or 4E frame, binary or ASCII. Data, link and file registers, bit devices, timers and counters are read in large blocks, so even long device lists update quickly.

Once connected, the values feed web screens, history, alarms and OEE, and the built-in OPC UA server makes them available to MES and ERP systems.

## Families and models

| Family | Models (examples) | Protocol |
|---|---|---|
| MELSEC iQ-R | R04CPU, R08CPU, R16CPU, R32CPU, R120CPU, RJ71EN71 — Built-in Ethernet port or RJ71EN71; select the series iQ-R for the extended device codes. | [Mitsubishi MC protocol (SLMP)](https://plcgateway.com/protocols/mitsubishi-mc.md) |
| MELSEC iQ-F (FX5) | FX5U, FX5UC, FX5UJ, FX5S — Built-in Ethernet port with an SLMP connection configured in GX Works3. | [Mitsubishi MC protocol (SLMP)](https://plcgateway.com/protocols/mitsubishi-mc.md) |
| MELSEC Q | Q03UDE, Q04UDEH, Q06UDEH, Q13UDEH, Q26UDEH, QJ71E71-100 — Built-in Ethernet of the UDE(H) CPUs or the QJ71E71-100 module with an MC protocol port. | [Mitsubishi MC protocol (SLMP)](https://plcgateway.com/protocols/mitsubishi-mc.md) |
| MELSEC L | L02CPU, L06CPU, L26CPU-BT — Built-in Ethernet port with an MC protocol connection. | [Mitsubishi MC protocol (SLMP)](https://plcgateway.com/protocols/mitsubishi-mc.md) |

## Notes for commissioning

- Open an MC protocol / SLMP port as TCP or UDP in GX Works and allow writes in RUN if needed.
- Choose 3E binary for the best performance unless the port is set to ASCII.
- Set the series iQ-R for R CPUs; use Q/L/FX5 for the other families.
- Import device lists from CSV or let an AI assistant create them over MCP.

## Questions and answers

### Is the FX5U supported?

Yes, through its built-in Ethernet port with an SLMP connection.

### Which frame should I use?

The 3E binary frame is the most common; 4E adds a serial number for multiplexed requests. Use the setting of the PLC port.

### Are older FX3 controllers supported?

Not directly; they use the 1E frame. Connect them through a gateway with Modbus TCP or OPC UA.
