# Siemens SIMATIC controllers

> From LOGO! to S7-1500: PLCGateway reads and writes SIMATIC controllers over Ethernet and makes their data available to OPC UA, SCADA, MQTT and AI assistants.

Siemens SIMATIC controllers are connected with the native S7 driver, which works with every CPU that has an Ethernet interface, from LOGO! to S7-1500, without changes to the PLC program. CPUs with an OPC UA server can also be connected through the OPC UA client with symbolic names.

This makes PLCGateway a gateway for SIMATIC lines: values are logged, alarmed and shown on web screens, shared through the OPC UA server with MES and ERP, and used for OEE and energy figures.

## Families and models

## Notes for commissioning

- S7-1200 / S7-1500: in the CPU properties allow PUT/GET communication from remote partners.
- Switch off optimised block access for data blocks that are read with absolute addresses.
- Use rack 0, slot 1 for S7-1200/1500 and rack 0, slot 2 for S7-300/400.
- Import tag lists from CSV, or let an AI assistant create devices and tags over MCP.

## Questions and answers

### Can PLCGateway read an S7-1500 without changing the program?

Yes. Only the CPU settings PUT/GET and optimised block access are adjusted; alternatively the built-in OPC UA server of the S7-1500 is used.

### Does it replace a Siemens OPC server?

For many applications yes: PLCGateway connects the CPUs directly and publishes the values through its own OPC UA server.

### Can it write to the PLC?

Yes, from screens, OPC UA, MQTT, REST or MCP, controlled by user roles, PIN and confirmation on operator screens.
