CNC machines with MTConnect

PLCGateway reads any MTConnect agent and combines machine tools of different brands in one OEE and monitoring system.

MTConnect gives machine tools of different builders a common data model. Many machines offer an MTConnect agent directly or through an adapter from the machine builder. PLCGateway reads the agent's current data and lets you browse all data items.

Execution state, part count, spindle and position data of every machine then appear in the same dashboards, OEE calculations and reports, next to machines connected with FOCAS or Haas Q commands.

Notes for commissioning

  • Check that the agent answers in a browser (for example http://machine:5000/probe).
  • One agent can serve several machines; enter the device name to select one.
  • Use the execution state and part count for availability and output in the production model.
  • MTConnect is read only; use FOCAS or Haas Q commands where values have to be written.

Questions and answers

Does every CNC have MTConnect?

No. Many newer machines offer it, others need an adapter from the machine builder or a third party. FANUC controls can be read directly with FOCAS.

Can I mix MTConnect and other drivers?

Yes, every machine is a device with its own driver; dashboards and OEE treat them the same.

Is a cloud service needed?

No, PLCGateway reads the agents in the local network and runs on your own hardware.
