Schneider Electric Modicon controllers
PLCGateway connects Modicon controllers with Modbus TCP, and the CODESYS-based M241, M251 and M262 also with network variable lists.
Modbus TCP is native to every Modicon controller, so M580, M340, Quantum, Premium, M221 and the M2xx families are connected without extra modules: %MW words, coils and bits are read in blocks with selectable word order.
The Machine Expert controllers M241, M251 and M262 are built on CODESYS and can also send their data as network variable lists. The values are then available in SCADA screens, history, alarms, OEE and through the OPC UA server.

Notes for commissioning
- %MW100 corresponds to holding register 100; PLCGateway accepts the %MW notation directly.
- Check the word order of 32-bit values (often CDAB on Modicon) and set it per device.
- Read neighbouring words together: PLCGateway merges them into one request.
- For M241/M251/M262, network variable lists avoid any Modbus mapping.
Questions and answers
Do I need a Modbus mapping table?
No for the %MW area; it is read directly. Located variables in Machine Expert can be read the same way.
Which word order do Modicon controllers use?
Most store the low word first (CDAB). PLCGateway lets you choose the order per device or per tag.
Can PLCGateway replace a Modbus OPC server?
Yes, it reads the controllers over Modbus TCP and publishes the values through its own OPC UA server.
