CODESYS-based controllers
Many PLC brands run CODESYS. PLCGateway connects them through network variable lists, Modbus TCP or their OPC UA server, whichever suits the project.
CODESYS is the programming system behind controllers from many manufacturers. PLCGateway offers three ways to connect them: network variable lists (lightweight, no server needed on the PLC), Modbus TCP (where a register map exists) and OPC UA (symbolic access to the whole application when the OPC UA server is enabled).
The data is then logged, alarmed and shown on web screens, used for OEE and energy management and published through PLCGateway's own OPC UA server and MQTT.

Notes for commissioning
- For NVL, switch off checksum and acknowledgement in the list properties.
- Paste the same declaration into PLCGateway so the variables appear with names and types.
- Use a send list to pass set points from PLCGateway back to the PLC.
- With the OPC UA server enabled, the symbol configuration decides which variables are visible.
Protocols
CODESYS network variable lists (NVL)
CODESYS V2/V3 network variable lists: receive and send lists, arrays, strings, multicast.

Which connection should I choose?
NVL for fast cyclic values without configuration on a server, OPC UA for symbolic browsing of the whole application, Modbus TCP where a register map already exists.
Does it work with CODESYS V2?
Yes, network variable lists of CODESYS V2 and V3 are supported.
Can PLCGateway run next to a soft PLC on the same device?
Yes. On a Raspberry Pi or an industrial PC, CODESYS Control and PLCGateway Embedded can run together, PLCGateway even showing the operator panel.
